Scot Jenerik: Coach

  • disabled

I grew up as an athlete and a competitor, participating in virtually every sport up through college where I trained with Olympic Steeplechase runner Henry Marsh. I then left the athletic world for a career as an artist and then musician, traveling all over the world performing at festivals of up to 10,000 people. I then found Rock Climbing and nothing that I had ever experienced created such an extreme level of bliss. When my daughter started climbing in 2000, I started to construct and apply a coaching philosophy developed not only from my multiple athletic disciplines, but from the psychological needs of being able to calmly perform under high pressure situations such as large festival audiences or International Competitions. Though I feel like I've come a long way in my coaching development I will never be done learning new and better techniques to optimize performance.

Coaching these elite climbers has by far been the most rewarding job I have ever had. At the heart of my coaching is the desire to help all of my kids develop a lifelong love and passion for climbing and athletics. It is essential to me that while they are working hard to achieve their dreams and goals, they continue to be great ambassadors for the sport.

Since 2000, the Zero Gravity Climbing team has progressively developed into one of the premier climbing teams in the country. We have produced multiple North American Continental Champions, USA Climbing National Champions and Canadian National Champions. The majority of the climbers who have been on Zero Gravity have become US or Canadian National Team members. Our entire team consistently qualifies for the National Championships and each year we send athletes to the Youth World Championships.

In addition I am a route setter for Touchstone Climbing and am the USA Climbing Northern California Regional Coordinator. I also continue to record and perform with my band F-Space http://www.mobilization.com
